I often have prospective clients tell me that they feel a bit guilty about hiring a personal stylist to help them because they have so many other priorities or things in life that they should be spending their time and money on. And I get where they’re coming from. It’s very common for us women to think that way. So I wanted to write this post for any of you that might be wondering whether or not hiring a personal stylist is the right thing for you.
I’d like you to think about your state of mind when you leave the house in the morning. Maybe you are picturing yourself walking out of the house frustrated and stressed that you’re running late because you spent 15 minutes standing in front of your wardrobe wasting valuable time trying to figure out what to wear? You already had to deal with children screaming, the dog trying to lick at your leg, your partner asking you why there’s nothing to eat for breakfast, so the last thing you wanted to do was stand there trying to plan your outfit for the day.
So more often than not, you end up wearing whatever you could throw on that was at the top of the pile in your wardrobe. Perhaps it’s that top that’s just a bit too big and those pants that don’t sit on your waist properly? Or an outfit that just doesn’t make you feel great about yourself. So off you go to do all those things you need to get done, all the while thinking about how crappy you look or how those darn pants keep riding up or down every time you move!
“Imagine waking up to a clean and tidy wardrobe, one where you can see everything in there and know that every piece fits you incredibly well and flatters your shape. You know that you have countless combinations and outfits that you can easily put together and wear with confidence.”
Yes, the children are still screaming and the dog is still trying to lick your leg, but hot damn you are looking and feeling amazing! You walk out of the house motivated, confident and energised, ready to take on all those things that you need to get done, except this time you know that you look great and you don’t have to worry about anything moving or twisting or slipping and sliding off! How amazing would that be?
If this sounds like a farfetched distant dream to you, I’m here to tell you that it can be a reality for you. How you ask, TELL ME NOW MONIKA (although I’m guessing you may already know the answer)!
“Invest in a personal stylist. Why? Because dressing in a way that makes you feel good is vital. Yes, it’s not the one and only thing that will solve all of your life’s problems, but it makes a significant impact on how we take on the day and get things done. When you dress in a way that makes you feel put together and confident, you are more able to focus on that to-do list in front of you.”
How you ask? Well, you aren’t worrying about those pants riding up or down your bottom, you aren’t worrying about how great so-and-so looks…and oh if only I looked that way you tell yourself…but no here I am in my top that is way too big for me…or those pants that make me look like my bottom is way too big and oh …man….WHAT IS LIFE?! STOP.
Once again, let me remind you, it’s totally normal to feel this way. But there is a way to change things – take the time to invest in yourself and your style. A personal stylist can help you to sort through your wardrobe, identify clothing gaps that may exist, research and find clothing items that flatter your shape and suit your lifestyle, and create countless outfit options for you so that you always feel like you have something to wear that makes you feel great!
QUESTION: when you feel confident in what you are wearing, are you more motivated and energised to do all the things that you need to get done? Audience: YES Monika, PREACH! Dressing in a way that is true to who you are, reflects your lifestyle and flatters your shape is so important for giving you the sustained energy and power to really take care of others and do all the things that need to get done. A stylist can help you dress that way. That’s why I chose this career. I sincerely believe that:
“Each and every one of you deserve to have an amazing wardrobe that gives you versatility, choice and ease (and that still works within your budget!). You deserve to dress in a way that makes you feel confident and look amazing.”
That’s why I’m here doing what I do. And yes, some people do think it’s superficial to spend time or money on yourself and your appearance, but PLEASE let’s turn this way of thinking on it’s head with a little bit of analysis (thank you Economics degree). A personal stylist will teach you how to invest in versatile pieces and provide you with expert knowledge on how to choose the right garment fit and style for you, so that you can get most efficient use out of your clothing and don’t end up buying something that you never wear! How’s that not value for money?
Investing in the way you dress is not superficial, it’s actually a tool that you can use to feel more confident. It’s not about the clothes themselves, it’s not about the brand or the trend or the price tag, it’s about how the clothes make you feel when you are wearing them. Having confidence, walking out the door feeling motivated, energised and ready to make a difference by tackling all those things that you need to and want to get done in life is THE furthest thing from feeling superficial!
“You don’t need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars. You probably already have more than you think sitting in your wardrobe, all it takes is a fresh set of eyes and an independent perspective to pull you out of that tunnel vision and broaden the styling possibilities that exist for you.”
So, do you want to make yourself a priority again in order to better serve those around you? Do you want to feel more confident in yourself and your image? Make a commitment to yourself. Make the decision – ‘I want to look and feel great in what I wear!’ – then take action. Invest in yourself and your dreams.
